Doon the watter

Well, this is awkward, as annoying websites say when they’re broken and trying to sound like they’re on your side and it’s not their fault. Which is exactly what’s happened here.

I’m fairly sure it’s WordPress’ fault but customer service is not high on their list of attributes, along with spell checking and being the least bit accommodating to languages or even words that aren’t mainstream American. Even if I could get through to them I’m sure they could prove that it’s my fault that the post entitled ‘Doon the watter’ no longer exists.

I’m afraid I can’t face re-writing it, it wouldn’t be the same. It’s a shame though as it recounted how Andrew and I journeyed up and down the Clyde from Campbeltown via Loch Ranza on Arran to Lochgoilhead and back via Bute to Brodick on Arran in search of Scottish gastronomy. Not entirely successfully, unfortunately, but we had a lovely time in a largely flat calm. We narrowly avoided being arrested by some gun-toting naval chaps in a fast RIB, did a lot of short tacking against the tide and eventually ended up climbing Goatfell, the highest mountain in the area on Arran and technically a Corbett (being a few metres short of a Munro).

So there you have it. Luckily I still have the pictures so here they are:

Lochgoilhead. It’s at the head of Loch Goil, for the benefit of English readers
This is where they load submarines with Trident warheads. Not so welcoming to errant yachts. Oops.

    Hi Peter

I hope you had a very Happy Christmas and have the very best New Year.

Perhaps it’s simply AI moderators removing all posts referencing Trident? warheads?

  4. I know the feeling – I was working up a WordPress blog of my ownership of Nosey when a WordPress update removed my opening page and all the links to years, rallies, pictures etc. I’m trying to muster up enthusiasm to attack it again … Cheers, John >
